The Yellow Wallpaper

For my final year University project, I decided to design and create costumes for "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I chose this text as it explores the effect abuse against women can have on their mindsets, as well as providing vivid imagery and themes. I designed a costume for the hallucination of a woman, trapped inside wallpaper, who haunts the narrator throughout the text. I did this by designing print inspired by William Morris to create a camoflaging effect, alluding to her being trapped inside a wall. I designed, pattern drafted, printed and constructed this costume to fit a model.
